PPEDM E-Drill Fastener Removal System

The PPEDM Structural Fastener Removal System is a game-changing technology development, that in most cases, will reduce structural fastener removal time by 80%!

A revolutionary solution to a long-established problem – airframe fastener removal. The E-Drill will change the way the industry removes fasteners.

The new E-Drill from PPEDM addresses every aspect of the fastener removal process. Enabled by a patented hand-held EDM technology, the new E-Drill removes fastener locking components allowing for their removal via the head or the collar side. Surgically accurate, the E-Drill virtually eliminates airframe damage and is ergonomically easy on the operator.

The E-drill can remove the following fasteners:

  • Lockbolts
  • Blind Bolts
  • Blind Rivets
  • Jo-Bolts/Visu-loks/Composi-loks
  • Hi-loks
  • Eddie-Bolts
  • Solid Rivets

The E-Drill is Fast – 1/4 inch aluminum fasteners can be cut in approximately three seconds; Titanium in approximately eight seconds.

The E-Drill is Airframe Safe – Risk of damage is dramatically reduced by the depth control of cut. The E-Drill is accurate on depth control of cut to .005 of an inch! The cutting process is forceless, eliminating drill drift and drill slip damage.

The E-Drill is Accurate – Cuts are clean and free of burrs that can damage the airframe when the pin is driven out.

The E-Drill is Versatile – The E-Drill works with any metallic fastener (Titanium, Inconel, Stainless Steel, Aluminum) in diameters ranging from 5/32 to 5/16 inch. Removal may be from the head (button head or flush)or the collar side.

The E-Drill is Easy to Use – The E-Drill is designed for use with minimal training or experience. After selecting the appropriate size cutting tip, the operator centers the cutting tip on the fastener and depresses the trigger. No force is necessary to advance the cutting process. The operator simply holds the tool in place during the short cutting process. The system automatically stops when the preset cut depth is achieved.

The E-Drill is Ergonomic – Since the process is forceless, the operator needs only to hold the E-Drill in place during the cutting cycle. This dramatically reduces the causes of stress and repetitive motion injuries. Because the PPEDM Fastener Removal System vacuums away and collects debris as it cuts, the E-Drill reduces eye injuries when drilling out a fastener in an overhead application. A closed-loop stream of dielectric fluid flushes the cut and removes the cut debris. Because of the aggressive flushing during the cut, virtually no heat is transferred to the surrounding area, i.e., no recast or heat affect zone (HAZ).
